SAYS SCOUTS HAVE GREATER RESPONSIBILITIES IN THESE TESTING TIMES FOR, PEACE AND HARMONY ADVISES SCOUTS NOT TO BE DETERRED BY FEAR OF FAILURE
Islamabad, August 19, 2009

            President Asif Ali Zardari today called upon the over five lac Scouts of Pakistan to work for peace and harmony at a time when the country was beset with problems of extremism and intolerance and also advised them not to be deterred by the fear of failure.
            He made this call during prize distribution ceremony for the Scouts of Cadet College Batrassi who were invited especially to the Presidency for this purpose today.
 
            Briefing the reporters Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the ceremony was the first of its kind during which the President also announced to meet the Scouts regularly in the Presidency to look both into their achievements and problems.
             The President also announced to appoint Lt General (Retd) S.P Shahid as his representative for the Scouts movement and advised the government to set up a task force for suggesting means to further promote the Scouts movement.

            The President advised the government to consider the desirability of awarding some extra marks in Board examinations to the scouts students to encourage scouting in the country, Farhatullah Babar said.
             The President on the occasion also asked the concerned authorities to extend the lease of land for the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association and advised the government to favourably consider the college, demands for construction of additional facilities.
             Praising the dedication of scouts during the earthquake of October 2005 and again recently in the relief and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons the President asked them to “work together for unity, peace and solidarity”.
 
            He said that scouting was one of the most organized movements in the world and called upon the youth to organize themselves to achieving greater heights.
 
            Scouts have a duty to Allah, to fellow human beings regardless of caste and creed and to themselves, the President said addressing the scouts adding, “With this guide post you are duty bound to illumine the path of peace as your duty to follow humans”.
             Farhatullah Babar said that the President also announced measure to boost scouting in the country. The measures announced included, invitation in small groups to distinguished scouts, holding of investiture ceremony in Presidency on December 22 in remembrance of the oath taken by the Quaid as Chief Scout on that day and cash award to each cadet for excellence in academics.
             The President advised the scouts to arm themselves with the tools of self confidence and positive thinking. Banish pessimism and prejudice from your thoughts and never be deterred by set backs, slips and falls in life, the President advised the scouts.
             The height of the mountain is sometimes best appreciated when you stand in the depth of a valley, he said.
             “We all climb, we all slip’, the President said and added, “Your station in life will be determined not by whether you slipped or not but it will be determined by what  you did when you slipped while climbing”.
             The ceremony was attended by Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Federal Minister for Education, Information Minister, Qamar Zaman Kaira, senior government officials besides the faculty and prize winning students of the College.
             Prizes were distributed among the students of Pakistan Scouts Cadet College Batrasi on the occasion by the President who is also the Chief Scout of Pakistan.
